On the 27th, students majoring in Metallurgical Engineering (Sino foreign cooperative education) from the School of International Education of Liaoning University of Science and Technology and representatives of International Students in China assembled a "Sunflower" volunteer service team to go to the "Dream Home" in Anshan to carry out a social practice activity with the theme of "Setting Sail for Dreams, Companion of Love".
Speaking of the "Dream Home", Many people in Anshan are familiar with it. For 29 long years, "Their father figure" Bai Jian has dedicated his life to supporting more than 200 children, providing them with the warmth and love of a family. The way “Bai Jian” is selflessness and commitmented to these children is truly inspiring.
At the "Dream Home," the volunteers from the International School Of Education systematically introduced the basic situation of Liaoning University of Science and Technology, including school history, major settings, campus life, etc., and patiently answered the children's questions. In addition, by bringing their unique perspectives and experiences, international students from Switzerland, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Russia enriched the lives of children. Their knowledge of human geography, customs, and traditions helped children understand the world more profoundly and meaningfully. As a result, the international students fostered a cross-cultural understanding of how diverse and interconnected the world is. The International students made an effort to impart basic language skills to the young ones, introducing them to rudimentary Russian, German and Italian phrases such as "hello," "goodbye," and "you're beautiful." This sense of contentment helped them stay motivated and engaged, leading to a brighter future.
At the event site, the Chinese and foreign student volunteers also led children to learn traditional Chinese culture and carried out themed activities such as "showcasing the elegance of Chinese culture, composing the beauty of traditional Chinese painting, writing the rhyme of Chinese characters, and creating the joy of Chinese art". The Volunteers changed into traditional Chinese clothing with the children and went on to learned about the cultural stories behind the diverse clothing .The Volunteers and the children also drew Peking Opera masks together, wrote Chinese calligraphy with brushes, as well as weave Chinese knots.
Noemi, an international student from Switzerland studying in China, expressed, "When I communicate with the children, I am infected by their optimistic attitude towards life. The children's daily physical training is challenging, but their resilience moves me."
